Where Are The Best Beaches in Alabama

Alabama's Gulf Shores and Orange Beach areas are known for their snow-white sugar sand and warm gulf waters.  But there are also quiet, secluded beaches with no crowds to rival those in the neighboring Florida Panhandle.

Gulf Shores Main Public Beach

Gulf Shores Main Public Beach is a popular spot for families and tourists, especially when the weather is hot. It has a large area for sandcastle building, beach volleyball, sunbathing, and many spots to hang out and take a break from the crowds.

The beach also has plenty of restaurants and shopping to keep you busy. There are restrooms and showers, picnic pavilions, beach eats, and plenty of space to spread out.

The best time to visit the beach is from late October through December, when temperatures are mild and rain is less likely to impact your enjoyment. However, the weather can be pretty dreary from April to June.

Orange Beach

Orange Beach is a popular vacation destination known for its quieter, more upscale vibe than neighboring Gulf Shores. This beautiful seaside community offers eight-plus miles of pristine white sand beaches, gorgeous beachfront condos, and various family-friendly activities.

Spend your days relaxing on the beach or exploring a variety of water sports like deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, and parasailing. Then, enjoy family fun on land at a local amusement park or waterpark.

Orange Beach is also home to many family-friendly restaurants serving fresh catches in unique environments. From fried seafood from GTs on the Bay to shrimp tacos at Lulu's, this coastal region boasts a wide range of dining options sure to please the entire family.

Gulf State Park

White sun-kissed beaches, surging surf, seagulls, and abundant nature activities greet visitors to Gulf State Park. The 6,150-acre coastal state park includes two miles of sugar white sand, an 18-hole golf course, a 900-acre lake for fishing, swimming, water skiing, tennis courts, group pavilions, and an interactive nature center.

After the destruction of Hurricane Katrina and Ivan, the community realized that their local economy would only thrive if they took care of their environment. This led to the implementation of the Gulf State Park Master Plan--an environmental sustainability initiative that has positioned Alabama as an international sustainable tourism destination.

Guests can explore the park via ten easy hiking and biking trails, including the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail System, which weaves throughout the lush landscapes of the park and showcases the natural vegetation and wildlife that call it home.

Alabama Point Beach

If you’re looking for an Alabama beach that won’t be filled with tourists and crowds, look no further than Alabama Point Beach. This secluded location offers scenic views, exciting wildlife to observe, and plenty of spots for picnicking!

This Gulf Shores beach is excellent for sunbathing and taking in the scenery. The sand is soft and bright white, and the water is clear and calm.

Located 0.3 miles east of Perdido Pass Bridge, Alabama, Point Beach features 6,000 feet of wide beach, dunes, boardwalks, picnic areas, restrooms, and outdoor showers. Its proximity to the larger Gulf State Park makes it more crowded during the summer, but it still provides ample space for families and individuals who want to relax.

Robinson Island

If you’re looking for a more remote, secluded escape, Robinson Island is the perfect spot to spend some time. Located off of Marina Road, this island is accessible by boat and provides sanctuary to sea birds like Wading Herons and Arctic Terns.

The small, quiet sandbar island is also a popular fishing and kayaking destination. You can find various restaurants along the island, including Tacky Jack’s, which has some of the best fish tacos!

Dauphin Island’s West End Public Beach is another excellent option for those seeking a quiet, relaxing getaway. This island is famous for its long stretch of powder-fine white sand and calm, clear waters.
